GUILTY: Alam Setiawan being led out of court after proceedings this morning

SHAH ALAM: A 39-year-old Indonesian labourer was sentenced to death this morning for drug trafficking.

Alam Setiawan from Tanjung Asahan Balai was arrested on Apr 25 after he was found in possession of 1,732g of cannabis at a fertiliser warehouse in Port Klang.

Shah Alam High Court judge Mohd Yazid Mustafa said the defence failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt Alam's claims that the culprit was an Indonesian man called Udin.

Alam had claimed that it was Udin, and not him, who had thrown a plastic bag containing two blocks of cannabis into the sea during the police raid.

Mohd Yazid said Alam's claim was not believable and that Udin was a fictitious character.

Alam was represented by defence council K.A. Ramu while Mohd Nordin Ismail prosecuted.

I first must apologize for the previous extremist politics and policies in my country, the USA, which has forced people around the World to make Cannabis illegal in order to supposedly "continue receiving Our support". Now, the citizens of the US are REMOVING those extremist elements which have been in power for almost eighty years. Also being removed are their old hard-line policies such as not tolerating an ancient, spiritual and medicinal plant in other countries, of which We enjoy the benefits in Our country. That is the definition of HYPOCRISY and We can no longer continue to act with blatant disregard for the truth. Having said that, We must reverse our previous policies of trade limitations for Cannabis, and can not allow our distant friends to be MURDERED for enjoying, growing, selling, or even tossing bricks of harmless Cannabis into the sea! It didn't hurt the sea and it didn't hurt you or me but the LOSS of medicine/sacrament DID hurt the people who would have likely been benefitting from it right now. Please, for the love of all that is good in humanity, DO NOT EXECUTE THIS MAN. It will serve no one well other than those who display hatred and antipathy for their fellow human beings... and the war profiteers of course. Thank you for your time and SERIOUS consideration.

I have done a lot of business in Indonesia and with the Suharta family when they were in power... It is one of the most oppressive and corrupt countries in the region... Their regard for human rights is appalling.... Untill the US's mentality on drugs changes and it sets an example of humane drug policies, other countries around the world we cannot expect other countries to make changes in their policies... Here in the US people are basically sentenced to death by being put into violent prisons... in prisons where drugs are available... our jails fill, and peoples lives ruined... all to impose a law to protect these people from themselves.. "Don't smoke the evil weed it will make you crazy, child molester, schitzo, cancer ridden, rapist, etc, etc... well over all the decades I've listened to all the BS... when is it going to happen, millions and millions smoke it daily, yet there has been no surge in adverse effect on health or society other than an increase in arrest and deaths due to law enforcement... NO ONE, I REPEAT, NO HAS EVER DIED FROM MARIJUANA... We are no less barberic than Indonesia....
